Flourish Family Law
Kirsty is one of the founding members of The Kind Lawyers. She is a lawyer, mediator and author. She runs a boutique law firm, Flourish Family Law. She was named a Family Law Peacemaker of the Year at the Inaugural Peacemaker Awards in 2021 and was a finalist for “Sole Practitioner of the Year” at the Women in Law Awards.
She believes that there is a better way to resolve family law disputes and a better way to help families. She created an ‘out of court’ solutions firm, as she felt that by moving away from litigious based solutions towards more client-led methods, we can save time, save money and perhaps even help people build a new relationship post-separation.
From a very young age, she wanted to do something that involved helping families, regardless of their circumstances or story. She grew up in a separated family herself, and through this experience gained a deep understanding of the difficulties that families face at this challenging time in their lives.
She gained her combined Law/Art Degree and was admitted in 2002. She has worked in Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra as a family lawyer. During this time, she was able to grow and broaden her knowledge and experience in Family Law matters.
She moved to Cooma NSW in 2005 and worked there as a Family Lawyer for the next 14 years. She was a Family Law panel member for Legal Aid NSW, partner in a law firm and also completed further studies to obtain her Masters in Applied Law (Family Law).
During this time, she too experienced a separation from her husband and navigated that journey with their two very young children. Her personal experience of separation enables her to have genuine compassionate and understanding - she can appreciate what it is actually like to be in this situation.
She is also a trained Mediator and has gained her status as a Nationally Accredited Mediator and undertook further training to work as a Collaborative Family Law Practitioner.
In 2022 she published her first book What are we fighting for? A Peaceful Pathway for separating couples. This is a very practical book that will guide couples through each of these steps and teach you the best possible way to navigate your separation peacefully.
She loves working with people and is interested in what makes you who you are. She really wants to listen and understand experiences and she is extremely passionate about helping and educating families and practitioners on how best to use kindness throughout conflict.
